I began my teaching career in the Mojave Unified School District (MUSD), the same district in which I was a student from kindergarten through high school graduation. During that time, I served many great students and families and I felt that I was able to give something back to the community that had helped shape me. I made many great friendships with my fellow teachers and I learned so many invaluable lessons from my mentor teachers. Unfortunately, the state budget crisis of 2009 would cause me to be laid-off and thus ended my return home to the MUSD.
After three great years of teaching for MUSD, I was hired by the Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) and assigned to teach at Sierra Middle School where I have remained for the past 6 years. My time at Sierra has been an absolute pleasure. I've worked for an outstanding administration and I've worked with some of the best teachers in the state. During the 2010-11 academic year, I was nominated for the Kern County Teacher of the Year Award, an honor that to this day has been my highest accomplishment.
Coaching has always been a passion of mine and I've been fortunate to be able to coach at every school I've taught at. From the high school level all the way down to tee-ball, boys, girls, and coed, you name it and I've been lucky enough to coach it. A recent career move to teaching physical education full-time has allowed me to focus on coaching and promoting physically active lifestyles. As I move forward with my career, I plan on making physical education, coaching, and student wellness my focus for teaching.
